**DISCLAIMER**I did the last one wrong...didn't use G for the 3 words when I first filled it in. Guess I didn't read all the directions! LOL! Here are my new words: Like garage sales (having them not going to them), Love gadgets (electronics), and Hate getting older (keeping that one!)
My son has me hooked on the Walking Dead! We just started watching it, so we have a lot to catch up on! Didn't think I would like it, but I LOVE it!! I don't watch too many TV series because I just can't keep up, but I've made time to watch this one! Even bought Season 1 on DVD so we could start from the beginning.
LOVING my big sister! She lives about an hour north of me and came down the other night to go to the Kate Spade Outlet near me. I met her and my niece and my cutie grand nephew. I found a tote I loved. I didn't get it, but considered going back over the weekend for it. We finished shopping and I headed home. A little bit later my niece called and said her and my sis were in my driveway. I went out and there she was with the tote! She said it was an early birthday gift!! I was so surprised and grateful!! I just love this bag!! Don't you?? I love my sister for so many reasons...she is generous, kind, loving, inspirational, forgiving, loyal, funny, and a great friend. She is also one of the best teachers I know!! THANK YOU, KAREN!! I love you lots!!
I can not believe it is already MARCH!! Where did the year go? Our last day of school is June 6th. I know some of you get out much later! We have spring break coming up and FCAT testing in April. I feel like I have so much left to cover before the end of the year! How does this happen every year?? This might sound strange, but I will be sad for this year to end. I LOVE my class! This is one of the best groups I've ever had! They are smart, enthusiastic, and so well-behaved! The parents are so supportive, too! I've had a great year so far. So, I need/want more time to teach them! There just aren't enough hours in the school day to cover it all!
March is my birthday month (the 23rd). I love birthdays. I think kids should be made to feel extra special on their birthday. For my own kids, I decorate after they go to bed. It's different every year. I hang a banner, balloons, a special tablecloth, and put the gifts out. Last year I hung steamers from their doorway so they walked into it in the morning. It makes me happy that this little tradition is still something they look forward to at 10 and 12.
As I get older my own birthdays are not as exciting. LOL! I hate getting older. I don't feel "old". I don't act "old". I just don't care for the number! I guess I shouldn't let it bother me, but somehow it does. I'm going to try real hard this year to not care. I'll let you know how it goes.
In the classroom, we sing, I have a birthday crown for the student to wear, they get a birthday pencil and bookmark, and I have a special birthday chair. (I don't have a picture of it! Sorry! I also have a special cover for the student of the month.) Parents can send in treats for lunch time, too. I love how happy kids are on their birthdays! What do you do to celebrate birthdays personally or in the classroom or both? Would love to hear!

ReplyDeleteI LOVE the tote bag - that is my life motto.
ReplyDeleteWell, technically it's not.
But I think it needs to be.
I need to stitch that on a pillow or whatever you do with life mottos :)

Still Teaching After All These Years
Thanks for stopping by my blog...I follow your blog religiously. You always have such great ideas :) I know what you mean about birthdays...they're just not as fun. I don't mind as much getting older (after 40 I didn't care too much anymore even though I wish I was at a fresh faced 27 still :) I like how you decorate for your kids...I'm going to try that this year.

Hey Gina! Your post today could have been written by me!! I too wonder where this year has gone and know I have too much to cram into the last three months. I also have the best class EVER and do not want the year to end. I also love birthdays in the classroom. My students wear a Happy Birthday jacket (it's actually a Japanese happy jacket)and when we sing to them we count to three in Japanese, bow, and say happy birthday in Japanese, and then cha-cha as we sing. I always give them a bag of goodies and usually moms bring by cupcakes! Although I do not watch The Walking Dead, my son did get me started watching Dexter- totally great! Thanks for this great post and I am enjoying your blog! Visit me when you have time!

Diving Into 2nd Grade
My mom turns 80 on Friday and it's bugging her 'cause 80 makes HER feel old :)) I guess it's all relative -- haha. Me? I love the presents but not the number change.

I bought a HB centerpiece at the dollar store that I tape to the birthday child's desk. Made a magnetic sign (vistaprint) that we put on the whiteboard and then I have a birthday cake hat for them to wear. I give them a card I had printed (vistaprint again), and a little treat bag with a funky pen, monster stickers, some laffy taffy and maybe something else. (Did them all at the start of the year.) Finally, I sprinkle some birthday confetti (party hats, balloons, sprinkles and a smiley face) on their desk.
