Five for Friday!

It's time already for another 5 for Friday! Link up with Doodle Bugs and join the fun!

#1: It was my favorite week of the year....SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR! I am a book addict, so when the book fair arrives I'm like a kid at Christmas! I am the first teacher to fill out her wish list and I visit just about every day. On Tuesday night, we had family night. I helped out and it was great fun.

I always keep my fingers crossed that I'll get some of the books I'm longing for. WELL... on Wednesday here is what came in!! Needless to say, I was super excited!

Today I was given a few more. Here are a few of my most favorites that I received:
I love this one. It is a fun non fiction book that gives facts about animal teeth and the on the opposite page it shows what a kid would look like with those teeth. The kids loved it!

This is one is great!! Can't wait to add this to my memoir writing lesson!
Your boys will love you for this one. Potterwookie is about a monster who is part Harry Potter and part Chewbacca! It has a Wimpy Kid feel to it. Really fun! Have you had a book fair this year?

#2: I stumbled on a new blog this week, I Do, We Do, You Do. Go by and check her out. I found some really good unit plans for reading. I love the way she has them laid out. Very easy to follow. Her units were just what I needed for my nonfiction lessons. I was feeling out of my "groove" lately and the lessons I purchased helped me get back on track. Have you ever felt like that?

#3: We have monthly PLC meetings. I am the leader for the CAFE/Daily 5 PLC. This week was our first meeting of the new quarter. There are many teachers at my school interested in learning about it. They seemed very receptive and willing to listen. I find it so interesting to see how difficult it is for some teachers to step away from their comfort zone. They want to try something new, but they are so fearful of making a mistake. I would not call myself "traditional" at all. Are you? Do you like to step out and try new things or do you have your tried and try ways?

#4: My hubby has been challenging his kids all year, trying to get them motivated to do well. One student "won" a challenge this week and his choice of rewards was to toss water balloons filled with chocolate sauce at my husband. The kids were excited! Anything to motivate them right??

#5: Since I was outside with my class, we decided to stay until the bell. It was a gorgeous day! My kids asked if I would take pictures of them. They were making me laugh. They posed like zombies, they meditated, they made funny faces. This one was my favorite:

It was fun just being silly!
Hope you had a fantastic week!

  2. Our book fair is next week and I can not wait! I don't think I'm very traditional- I tend to jump feet first into new things and then wonder what happened :)

  5. I am so jealous of the book fair! Being in a middle school we mostly get chapter books. Which is understandable, but I miss the picture books. I'm so very jeaous of the weather (as usual)
    Enjoy your weekend!

  7. Thank you for the blog recommendation. It looks great!

    Chocolate sauce? Wow!

I was at a conference recently where they talked about how people approach change. Listening to the presenter describe types of people and how willing they would be to buy into something new. It was interesting - and telling!

    Enjoy your weekend!
